Recruiting Blitz 10/13/2012

– 2015 Frostproof MLB Cecil Cherry (6’0, 220) visited Florida last weekend when they hosted LSU. He was invited by the Gator staff. “I was on the field before the game, but I didn’t speak to any coaches or players,” he said. “I had good seats and it was an interesting game. The Swamp was packed and loud.”

Cherry is considering LSU, Georgia, Miami, Duke, Virginia, TCU, Arizona, Arizona St., and Kansas St., among many others.

He shared his thoughts on his overall experience in Gainesville with Deep South Recruiting. “It seemed to me that LSU needs some help at linebacker, that interests me,” he said. “But really, I’m still wide open, the trip didn’t tilt the scales in Florida’s favor, but it was a decent visit.”

Cherry doesn’t have any other visits planned currently and added he’s open to making a trip anywhere.

– 2014 Hialeah C A’lique Terry (6’2, 280) has elevated his overall game and feels he’s playing better. “Individually, I’m playing well. I have a bigger role in our offensive success and I’ve embraced more of a leadership role.”

Terry reports new contact with Louisiana Lafayette. “I talked to the coaches when they stopped by Hialeah, and I’ve spoken with Western Kentucky again. Florida Atlantic watched one of our games, said they were looking at me.”

Of the three schools in recent contact with him, Terry told Deep South Recruiting he likes FAU the most. “I like the environment, it’s close to home. I have a great relationship with the OL coach,” he said. “Plus, I think they’re close to offering me.”

Also a starter on Hialeah’s hoops team, Terry said off season visits are in the works for ULL and Ole Miss.

– 2013 CB/S Arsenio Frederic (5’10, 185, 4.59) of Miami Norland has 25 tackles and two forced fumbles on the season.

He reports continued interest from Colorado St. Northern Colorado is the latest to offer the Norland senior, with Weber St. being the first. Frederic also mentioned that he would like FAU, FIU, and West Virginia to enter the race. He’d like to be verbally committed to a program by season’s end.

– In a recent conversation, 2013 DE D’Angelo Reynolds (6’6, 250, 4.7) of Miami Northwestern informed me he’s trimmed his list to three: Florida St., Florida, and South Carolina. He’s not sure when he’ll be making his decision public.

2013 S Kwan Grice, Hialeah HS, Florida

Kwan Grice Highlights

2013 S Kwan Grice (5’10, 160, 4.67/40) of Hialeah HS has offers from Duquesne, Texas Southern, and Albany. Grice reports that Duquesne wants him to visit as soon as the season is over.

Grice’s goal is to play BCS level football. “I just transferred from Mater Academy, so I’m a little late to the recruiting game. I think I have a chance to play big-time college football.”

Hialeah’s newest Thoroughbred has been busy this summer on the camp circuit, already attending Al Golden’s camp and including trips to FIU and FAU. “I learned at the FAU camp that speed is very important in college football and it’ll help me get a scholarship. The FAU coaches taught us how to work on our speed, so I’ll concentrate on that this summer, too.”

Sunday he attended FIU’s camp. “There was a lot of competition among the defensive guys. It showed me again what I have to do in order to get offers from Division I schools,” Grice said. “I talked with the secondary coach, Jeff Popovich, and he said he liked what I did at safety, that I picked up the coverages really well.

“At Al Golden’s camp, there were a lot of guys out there. I didn’t get as much one-on-one instruction, but I learned where I stand against the rest of the competition I’ll face. I have to work hard to achieve my goals.”

Grice, who also runs track, said he will camp at FSUVanderbilt, GeorgiaTennessee, and additional FCS camps later this summer.

He told Deep South Recruiting what he feels makes him stand out from the rest of the competition. “I excel in one-on-one coverage and stopping the run,” Grice said. “I’m already working on my footwork and hips everyday, practicing like a corner.”

Grice boasts a 4.2 weighted and 3.2 un-weighted GPA. He’s scored 1000 on the SAT and 20 on the ACT.

2014 OL A’lique Terry, Hialeah HS, Florida

A’lique Terry highlights

2014 C A’lique Terry (6’1, 280, 5.0 shuttle) of Hialeah HS in Florida claims no verbal offers currently, but said he hears from Western Kentucky and Minnesota. “Minnesota offered one of our OTs, Jomel Ribalta, and they saw me during our spring game. They said they liked me.”

Terry has been active this summer, attending Miami and FAU camps. “I went to Al Golden’s camp on June 3rd and 9th. I felt I did well, the coaches took an interest in me, coached me up.”

“I also attended the FAU camp. I had a conversation with the OL coach, said he liked me and that I performed well. He said to be sure to send him my information so they can take a closer look at me.”

Terry will also attend camps at FIU, Kansas, and Florida St. in July. Georgia, Mississippi St., Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Florida will also get camp visits.

His favorite programs currently are FSU, Georgia, and Tennessee.

He says the strength of his game is his knowledge of Hialeah’s offense. “I have to know the playbook and everyone’s responsibilities as a center, make the right line calls. When we break the huddle most times, I can see what we need to do as a unit to get our job done.”

Terry says competing against Hialeah’s two talented defensive tackles, Jerrol Mobley and Roderick Stephens, in practice has forced him to get better. “Those two hold it down at defensive tackle, make it hard for me everyday in practice. They give the offensive line headaches,” he said. “Both of my teammates will play big-time football on the next level. When I’m competing in games and camps it makes going against my opponent easier because Mobley and Stephens have tested me, made me a better player. I’m used to the level of competition they bring.”

2014 QB Alin Edouard, Hialeah HS, Florida

2014 QB Alin Edouard (6’2, 185, 4.6/40) of Hialeah HS attended the Al Golden Camp last weekend, and he believes he is starting to make a name for himself on the recruiting scene. “I think I performed well in the one-on-one drills and I was one of the three finalists in the fastest man competition.”

By attending the Al Golden Camp, Edouard said he learned that he has to take a leadership role for Hialeah in 2012. “It was the most important thing I learned, that I need to step up and be a leader for my team. I got a motivational talk from the coaches and it will inspire me to take that role next season. I plan on being more vocal this year.”

Edouard says the camp visit impressed him and will consider the Hurricanes in his recruiting process. “I would definitely play for the University of Miami. I really like the way Coach Golden coaches his players. He’s very intense and I liked that. That opened my eyes about possibly being a ‘Cane one day.”

He claims no verbal offers just yet, but said he’s hearing from plenty of schools. “I get letters from Kansas, Wisconsin, DukeMemphis and some others.”

Hialeah’s starting quarterback has plans to hit the camp circuit this summer. “I have a lot of camps to go to. I’ll attend camps at FAU, FIU, FSU, Ole Miss, and Georgia.”

Edouard starred for the Florida Fire this spring, a select 7-on-7 team, competing against the state’s best prospects. He talked about how that experience has prepared him for the upcoming season. “It was a great experience. I would like to thank my coach, Dennis Marroquin, for helping me out. He taught me how to use my eyes, taught me it’s not all about arm strength,” Edouard said. “I learned how to use my legs and become more accurate.”

He talked about his team’s preparations for the 2012 campaign. “Yesterday, we worked out as a team, got some good work in. There is no offseason if you want to be successful,” he said. “We’re lifting weights, running routes, and throwing the ball around. Everyone is working hard to make next season a success, to accomplish our goal of winning the state championship.”
