2014 WR Johnny Williams, Jackson Christian School, Tennessee

2014 WR Johnny Williams (5’11, 180, 4.55/40) of Jackson Christian School in Tennessee racked up 1500 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns this season. He saw time not only at wideout, but running back, outside linebacker, safety, and punt and kick returner. “I think I’ll fit into a program at slot receiver because I have good hands and I run crisp routes. I get great separation and have a knack for getting open.”

Williams was named First Team All-West Tennessee, First Team All-District, and has been selected to the US Army All-American Bowl Watch List. His versatility and production has also earned him the attention of college coaches. “Ole Miss, Missouri, Cincinnati, and Arkansas St. are among a few schools showing me interest.”

He visited Ole Miss unofficially earlier last season. “I attended the game against Vandy this year,” he told Deep South Recruiting. “I liked the Rebels a lot. I like the gameday atmosphere in Oxford. I’ll camp and attend Junior Day there. I’d say Ole Miss is definitely my favorite at this point.”

Williams shared his additional offseason plans. “I’ll pick another four or five universities to attend camp and I’m going to the FBU Camp again. That’s the one I’m most excited about.”

He talked about the most important things he’ll be seeking from a college program. “Academics will be the most important thing for me. I have a 3.87 GPA and I scored a 23 on the ACT,” Williams said. “The coaching staff, how they carry themselves is also big. I’m looking for good, honest people. I want a coaching staff that will be there for me and look out for my needs.”

2013 LB Kelvin Acosta, Dade Christian School, Florida

Kelvin Acosta Highlights

2013 LB Kelvin Acosta (5’10, 195, 4.8/40) of Dade Christian School in Miami claims no verbal offers, but says he gets regular recruiting mail from South Alabama, FIU, Arkansas St., and Michigan St.

He played defensive end last season for Carol City, but will play linebacker this fall for Dade Christian School.

Acosta talked about his summer schedule. “I attended Al Golden’s camp at Miami and a camp at FIU,” he said. ”There was great coaching at both camps and I learned more fundamentals and advanced techniques.”

While camping at UM, FIU coaches took notice of him. “I talked with a couple of their coaches at the Miami camp, said they liked me.”

He lists his favorite programs as Boston College, Miami, South Alabama, Arkansas St., and FIU.

Academics will play a big role in his recruitment. “I have a 3.15 GPA,” Acosta said. “I’d prefer a university with smaller class size and be able to have a relationship with my professors and get intimate instruction.”

School location won’t factor into his decision. “It’s not very important to me. I’m more concerned with what a program has to offer academically.”

Acosta feels his work ethic and determination will carry him on the next level. “I’m not going to allow anything to stand in the way of achieving my goals. I’ll do whatever it takes.”

Being physical is the best part of his game. “I like to hit and tackle. I think most players, after I hit them the first time, are surprised by my strength.”

Dade Christian’s new linebacker plans to run track and wrestle this school year.

Acosta will visit Boston College in December and plans on committing to a university closer to signing day.

2014 OLB/WR Marshall Andrew Eddins, Grace Christian Academy, Tennessee

2014 OLB/WR Marshall Andrew Eddins (6’4, 220, 4.58/40) of Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville, Tennessee hasn’t been offered yet, but he hears from LSU, Vanderbilt, and Middle Tennessee St. quite often.

MTSU and LSU are recruiting him the hardest currently. “I have the most letters from LSU. They sent me a thick packet in the mail telling me that they were very interested in me. I’ve been personally invited to the camps and they’ve asked for my top 25 plays for review,” he said. “One of my coaches got a call from the LSU staff requesting my film and we mailed it to them.”

In 2011, Eddins tallied 95 tackles at OLB. At wideout, he caught four passes, two for TDs and averaged 29 yds. per catch. He was named Breakout Player of the Year in Region 3-2A. He also starts at power forward for the basketball team and averages 12 points and 12 rebounds per game, while maintaining a 3.71 GPA.

Grace Christian Academy’s star athlete has camped at Vandy and MTSU twice, Arkansas St., North Carolina, NC State, and Western Kentucky.

He has a group of favorite programs already in mind. “It’s a fluid Top 6, but Vanderbilt, LSU, MTSUUCLA, USC, and Texas A&M.”

Eddins talked about what he’s seeking from a college football program. “It’s a privilege for an athlete to play for a winning program and I would prefer to play for a competitive program, but I want to play for a university with heart and desire that doesn’t ever give up,” he said. “A competitive non-conference schedule will attract me also.

“As far as school location, I’ll play anywhere in the United States besides Alaska.”

He’s willing to bide his time early in his collegiate career, but he would like a clear path to playing time as he develops. “I’m not looking to start as a freshman, I’m just looking for time by my sophomore year and be in position to start in my junior and senior seasons.”

It’s early in his recruiting process and Eddins is still collecting interest, but he has an idea when he might narrow his college choices down. “I’d like to have my favorites picked by the end of this season, but there’s no firm timetable for that or a verbal commitment at this point,” he told Deep South Recruiting. “But if LSU offered me, it would be hard to say no to the Tigers.”
