2013 WR Joshua Shaw, Everglades HS, Florida

2013 WR Joshua Shaw (6’1, 170, 4.6/40, 4.1 shuttle) of Everglades HS said he hears from Kentucky, Missouri, Cincinnati, Western Illinois, and Southern Illinois.

He described his contact with Kentucky and Missouri. “Coach Mike Cassity, the DB coach at Kentucky, wanted me to come to a camp, which I did. I performed really well there and I think I’m close to an offer,” he said. “They want to see a mid-season highlight tape before they officially offer me.

“With Missouri, I’ve been talking with the coaches since last season. They do a good job of keeping in touch. I think they’re waiting till mid-season also.”

Shaw says one program is standing out to him currently. “I’d say Kentucky is recruiting me the hardest. When I went up there, they really showed me that they want me. It’s a great atmosphere and they want to recruit the state of Florida better. They’re selling me on early playing time and playing in the SEC.”

He’s kept himself busy this summer, camping at Kentucky and FIU, and competing with the Florida Fire 7-on-7 team. He talked about how playing on the 7-on-7 team helped him elevate his overall game. “The experience with the Florida Fire was great because of all the elite competition we faced, it forces you to get better. It was a good measuring stick for how far I’ve come and how far I need to go.”

Shaw shared with Deep South Recruiting what he’s seeking from a program on the next level. “It would be great to stay closer to home, but leaving and playing out of state is no problem. I just want to play football.”

He spoke on the importance of having a solid relationship with his coaches. “It’s important. I’m leaving home to come play for your football program, so the relationships with the coaches needs to be on a high level.”

Shaw also competes for the track team, running the 200M, 400M, and 4×100. He also high jumps. “My personal best in the 200M is 24.0 and my best jump is six feet, one inch.”

Because of his playmaking ability, he will see time on offense and defense this year. “My coaches told me they want to take advantage of my athletic ability, so I expect to see some time at corner and safety.”

Although Shaw would like to be committed by the end of the season, there’s no firm timetable on a decision.
