2013 LB Kelvin Acosta (5’10, 195, 4.8/40) of Dade Christian School in Miami claims no verbal offers, but says he gets regular recruiting mail from South Alabama, FIU, Arkansas St., and Michigan St.
He played defensive end last season for Carol City, but will play linebacker this fall for Dade Christian School.
Acosta talked about his summer schedule. “I attended Al Golden’s camp at Miami and a camp at FIU,” he said. ”There was great coaching at both camps and I learned more fundamentals and advanced techniques.”
While camping at UM, FIU coaches took notice of him. “I talked with a couple of their coaches at the Miami camp, said they liked me.”
He lists his favorite programs as Boston College, Miami, South Alabama, Arkansas St., and FIU.
Academics will play a big role in his recruitment. “I have a 3.15 GPA,” Acosta said. “I’d prefer a university with smaller class size and be able to have a relationship with my professors and get intimate instruction.”
School location won’t factor into his decision. “It’s not very important to me. I’m more concerned with what a program has to offer academically.”
Acosta feels his work ethic and determination will carry him on the next level. “I’m not going to allow anything to stand in the way of achieving my goals. I’ll do whatever it takes.”
Being physical is the best part of his game. “I like to hit and tackle. I think most players, after I hit them the first time, are surprised by my strength.”
Dade Christian’s new linebacker plans to run track and wrestle this school year.
Acosta will visit Boston College in December and plans on committing to a university closer to signing day.
