2015 Watch List QB Chris Riddle Transfers to Sandalwood

2015 Watch List QB Chris Riddle (6’2, 190) is on the move.

The sophomore signal-caller has completed a transfer from Bishop O’Connell in Virginia to state powerhouse Sandalwood in Florida. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for me to test my ability against some of the best athletes and competition in the country. I’m excited about it.”

He explained how the transfer came about. “My dad was asked to relocate for his job, so we researched schools in Jacksonville and Sandalwood really stood out because of the level of competition they face.”

FLORIDA

– 2014 WR Rudolph St. Germain (6’2, 180, 4.5) of Palm Beach Central says he’s hearing from Louisville and Wake Forest. He’s a talented under-the-radar prospect that hauled in 15 receptions last season.

St. Germain said he’s still planning on which university camps to attend this summer. He says he’d like to hear from Miami, Florida St., and to continue to stay in touch with the Louisville Cardinals.

“I’d like to stay closer to home to play college football,” said St. Germain when asked which factors will be important to him in his decision making. “To be closer to home and have family support is huge for me.”

2015 Watch List CB/S Austin Ashley, Coral Gables High, FL

2015 Watch List CB/S Austin Ashley (5’11, 180, 4.49) of Coral Gables High in Florida recorded 45 tackles and 12 passes broken up last season as a sophomore starter. He has collegiate and professional football bloodlines; he’s the nephew of Miami great and NFL Pro-Bowler Santana Moss.

Moss trains with Ashley in preparation for the upcoming season. Ashley said of his workout regimen that “we do core workouts, lift weights, and footwork drills. I’ve really been concentrating on my explosion out of my breaks and being a more physical player.”

Ashley claims no verbal offers just yet, but he told Varsity Preps he already has a favorite.

2015 Watch List QB Maurice Alexander, Homestead High, FL

2015 Watch List QB Maurice Alexander (5’11, 170, 4.66) of Homestead High in Florida is a prospect on the rise in South Florida. His play this spring for the South Florida Express 7-on-7 team has caught the attention of college recruiters all across the southeast.

Last season, he threw for over 1400 yards and connected for 13 touchdowns, and throwing just five interceptions as a sophomore starter.

Alexander recently witnessed a spring practice at Florida. “The practice was intense, hard-hitting, and they were getting after it. I talked to Gators WR Coach Joker Phillips and he showed me some coverages and how to handle them. It’s a program I could see myself attending.”

2015 Champagnat Catholic (FL) WR Steven Claude

2015 WR Steven Claude (6’1, 185, 4.5) of Champagnat Catholic is an emerging talent in South Florida. A wideout for the Florida Fire, he feels that the extra reps and exposure is benefiting him. “It’s been great. All of our coaches are bringing it, Head Coach Dennis Marroquin and my coach, Mike Tunsil. We’ve won two tournaments, the Central Florida 7-on-7 and the Palm Beach Shootout,” he said. “It’s good to see how I stack up against other other players in our state. I’ve found what areas I need to improve on, so it’s been a success being apart of the Florida Fire.”

2015 WR Shaquery Wilson, Coral Gables High, FL

2015 WR Shaquery Wilson (6’3, 205, 4.56) of Coral Gables High is a quick, physical receiver that hasn’t quite exploded on the scene. His size and skill set won’t keep him under-the-radar long. Marshall and Old Dominion have extended offers to the 2015 Watch List wideout, and with an expected breakout season ahead of him, many more scholarships offers will be sure to follow.

Marshall is my favorite right now because its FBS,” Wilson told Varsity Preps. “My coach said West Virginia and Washington are interested, but I’m open to anyone. I’m interested in SEC schools like LSU and Alabama.”

Across the Deep South, I

GEORGIA

2014 OLB Deshon Cooper (6’4, 205, 4.69) of Columbia High in Decatur has offers from KentuckyVanderbiltLouisvilleLouisiana LafayetteLouisiana-MonroeRutgersGeorgia St., and Old Dominion.

He recently visited the Tennessee Volunteers. “I enjoyed my visit. The facilities are nice, the tempo of practice was good.”

Auburn and South Carolina will receive summer camp visits and he’ll travel to see Louisville for a Junior Day very soon. “I’m anxious to see Louisville. When I watched the Sugar Bowl, they really impressed me.”

Last season, Cooper registered 62 tackles, five sacks, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, one PBU and one safety. He also sees time at wideout, where he had 123 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Cooper said Columbia High has a chance to have a special season. “We’ve been working extremely hard and we’re determined to go all the way this season. I feel like we’ve come together this offseason and bonded as a team.”

He’s seeking a family atmosphere where he has the chance to earn early playing time. “I’d like to contribute right away and I’d prefer to play college football in the Deep South.”

Columbia’s talented junior is planning on graduating in December to be eligible to compete in spring practice next year.

FLORIDA

2014 OLB Jacob Rios (6’2, 215, 4.76) of Tampa Catholic recently visited Florida Atlantic. “I arrived early and got to sit in on the defensive, special teams, and linebacker meetings. I really enjoyed that and I like how the FAU staff is running things. It’s a school I could definitely see myself attending for four years.”

FAU will scout Rios next month at spring practice and will decide on an offer after seeing him up close. “I’d really like an offer from them. My visit really has me excited about FAU.”

Alabama St.UMass, and Purdue have expressed interest in Tampa Catholic’s linebacker. Rios told Varsity Preps he has interest in Cincinnati and South Florida.

This summer, he’ll attend the FAU Linebacker School and will camp at UNC Charlotte.

Rios spoke about what will be important in his recruitment. “I’m looking for the best opportunity for me and a family atmosphere,” he said. “I’d like to play on the East Coast preferably.”

He’d like to have a decision in place before the season starts.

TENNESSEE

2016 OL Casen Sloan (6’2, 280) of Battle Ground Academy in Tennessee is a big guard that’s already receiving mail from Princeton. “They want me to camp and become more familiar with their program.”

BGA’s young lineman has a busy summer ahead. “I’ll be attending a FBU camp and the Blue Chip Academy camp,” he said. “I also want to camp at Vanderbilt and Tennessee.

“I’m interested in Tennessee and I like Vanderbilt,” Sloan said. “Vandy is close to home and I like James Franklin. He’s really doing a great job with that program and has raised their profile in Nashville.”

Sloan is concentrating on elevating his overall game. “I feel I’m a good pass blocker and this offseason, I’ve been working on getting stronger and improving my run blocking.”

Education will be the most important factor in his college choice. School location and playing early won’t be as important to him, but a program’s recent success will have an impact on his decision.

VIRGINIA

2014 ATH/QB William Smith (6’1, 185, 4.5) of Granby High in Norfolk, Virginia is an athletic playmaker that’s hearing from UNC CharlotteTempleTennesseeVirginia Tech, and Hampton among others.

He shared some details with Varsity Preps about conversations he’s had with college coaches recently. “Temple, I talk to them a lot and they say they want me at DB.

“I just started talking with Tennessee and they want me at corner, too.”

Smith visited Virginia Tech for a Junior Day last weekend. “I got to see the program up close and I like the players that go through there.”

Granby’s versatile athlete will camp at UNC CharlotteTennesseeTempleVirginiaVirginia TechNorth Carolina, and Elon this summer.

Williams will choose a school with an international relations/business program. “I have a 3.1 GPA and a school having that major will go a long way with me.”

He lists no favorites currently. “I’m still wide open, but I really do like UNC Charlotte at the moment.”

Williams said he’d like to end the recruiting process by the end of summer.

2014 SS Carter Jacobs (6’1, 191, 4.6) of American Heritage Plantation in Florida is hearing from MarshallNotre DameBoston CollegeLouisville, and Rutgers. Last season, he was named 2nd Team All-Broward behind a 61 tackle, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries performance.

2014 ATH Trayon Gray (6’1, 197, 4.51) of Carol City High in FL is a big, athletic playmaker that shockingly, is under-the-radar and just now emerging as a top prospect in South Florida. He told Varsity Preps that he has verbal offers from South Alabama and Appalachian St., and is hearing from MiamiLouisvilleWest Virginia, and Harvard.
